We've officially wrapped up the first month of school, and what a month it's been! Last week was certainly one for the books with WOW week, spirit days, lunch activities, a bus evacuation drill, and our 6th grade elections. It's been great to see students diving into the new school year with so much energy.
As we head into September, we want to remind everyone that there will be no school this coming Monday, September 1st, in observance of Labor Day.
This week, all students will also begin their i-Ready diagnostic assessments in both math and reading. Please remind your student to take their time and do their absolute best on these assessments, as the results help us understand their strengths and where they might need more support. Additionally, fall sports are officially underway, and we're excited to see our athletes in action!
We're already nearing the halfway point of the first quarter, so if your student needs some extra help with their classes, they can take advantage of our lunch homework centers. It's a great opportunity for them to get one-on-one support.
We're looking forward to an amazing September and a strong finish to the first quarter!

September 2 - September 18
This week, students will begin their iReady diagnostic in reading and math. This test measures their reading and math levels. We want students to try their best!
The results help to guide teachers to best support your child. For English Learners, this can impact their ability to reclassify out of their ELD classes.
Parents, make sure to help them do their best by making sure that they get sleep, eat breakfast, arrive to school on time, and have their Chromebooks charged every day.

Homework Center will now be at LUNCH on regular days:
We are changing Homework Center from after school to lunch time in an effort to have more students be able to participate.
We will continue to offer after school Homework Center on Wednesdays.

The Right At School after school program is accepting registrations.
The Right At School program is offered every day after school until 6:00pm. Students do not have to stay until 6:00pm but there is a minimum of a half hour every day

We have information about low cost internet services or we can sign up you for a mobile hot spot.
Requests for Hot Spots must come from parents, not the students.

The competition was tough, but we have our winners for the grade level spirit week dress-up challenge. The first period classes with the highest percentage of students who participated are:

Tryouts & Practices for Cross Country, Fencing, Boys Soccer, and Girls Volleyball.
If practices do not start right after school, this is a reminder that students cannot stay on campus. They must go home and return at their scheduled time, unless they're staying in the RAS After School program.
** Note: 6th Grade Girls Volleyball and 6t Grade Flag Football will start in mid September.

- Overall, attendance improved this last week. This week's average was 96.18%.
- We had a reduction in the number of students late to school in the morning at least one day this week. We went down to 20 students from 55 students the previous week.
- The number of students with period tardies also decreased this week with 11 students late to at least one class this week.
- We are communicating with the families of all students arriving late.
Talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day
and showing up on time for every class!

This week, we're so excited to recognize our Library Media Tech, Alex Cuevas, as our Hawk of the Week! The beginning of the school year is always a busy time, and Alex has been a true superstar. She worked tirelessly to ensure every teacher received their textbooks and that all student Chromebooks were ready for checkout, making for a smooth start to the year.
Beyond her day-to-day duties, Alex coordinated with our social studies department and school counselors to present to students, teaching them about library expectations and the mental health resources available on campus. Her positive attitude and dedication have been invaluable.
Alex is truly a gem at our school. She consistently uses her natural artistic talents to bring a little extra joy to our days, brightening up the staff and students' spirits with her drawings and positive affirmations. Her commitment to our school community goes above and beyond, and we are so incredibly lucky to have her. Thank you, Ms. Alex, for everything you do to make our library and our school a welcoming and supportive place to be!
