Important Information: California Healthy Kids Survey
​
This week, your student was sent home with an important notice regarding participation in theΒ California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). This survey is an important tool that helps us understand the needs of our students and school community, focusing on areas such as school connectedness, physical activity, nutrition, and behaviors that impact their well-being.

**NEW** Right At School - ELOP After School Program
​
We are so excited to be launching the Right At School program after school at GVMS. Starting Monday, October 7th, students will be able to stay after school until 6:00pm. Enrollment information will be sent out via Parent Square.Β 

Our school Homework Centers will now be a part of the Right At School program

Snack will be provided

Transportation is not provided

Family Engagement Opportunities This Week

We have two family engagement opportunities this week:

Virtual Family Engagement Workshops - This Wednesday, October 9thΒ is our fourth parent engagement workshop. This is a partnership with the Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE). Join us virtually at 6pm! This week's topic is: General Academics

Student Devices - REMINDERS!
​
  • Cell phones, airpods, and all are to remain in backpacks on silent or turned off for the entirety of the day.
  • devices areΒ not allowedΒ to be used during breaks or lunch
  • **NEW** Students will be asked to put their phones in a basket before entering the bathroom if they're seen in pockets.
  • If students have electronic devices out, they will first be given a warning to put device way.
  • After one warning, the device will be confiscated and kept in the front office and returned after school
  • Students who have their devices taken more than once will to have them picked up by a parent or someone one their emergency contact list
  • All students were given these expectations in our welcome assemblies as well as in their own classes, we also announce these on our morning announcements daily

Fundraisers
​
We have two fundraisers taking place at Gavilan View.

1. Popcorn Fundraiser - Money Turn In Date Wed 10/9

Every student at our school is encouraged to sell popcorn. These funds are used to bring student events to our school campus. Extra packets are available in the front office.
Last day to turn in money is Wed, Oct 23rd.
Popcorn will be delivered in November.

2. Music Loaded Baked Potato Fundraiser

Our students in the music program continue to sell tickets for our Music Baked Potato Fundraiser. Buy your tickets now & get your potato later! $10 per potato.

Mark your calendars for Friday, October 18, 2024 from 3:30pm to 7:00pm. Bring your tickets and pick up your delicious baked potato.

Any help you can give our school by supporting our fundraisers is greatly appreciated!!!

We are seeing weekly improvements. We want to congratulate the 8th grade class for jumping up a percentage point.

Here are the attendance percentages per grade level.Β 

Grade 6: 95.87%
Grade 7: 94.88%
Grade 8: 96.27%

Let’s keep up the good work and continue to improve. We want to get to 100%!

Field Trip Opportunities
​

7th Grade Families: We are getting ready for our upcoming 7th grade field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium on Tuesday, October 22nd. The Monterey Rotary Club is sponsoring this trip for our school. This is a great privilege and wonderful opportunity.

To be eligible to participate in the field trip, students must exhibit good behavior and meet school expectations from now until the trip.
Participation will be excluded if students:
  • have any pending Saturday Schools (for disciplinary reasons)
  • have had any suspensions this school year
  • are on structured break and/or lunch
  • commit any academic dishonesty
  • have 3 or more incidents in a classroom that would impact them from following the rules of the Aquarium (such as following directors, being disruptive, horse playing, etc.)

** 6th& 8th Grade Field Trips will be later this school year.

6th Grade Flag Football has a game on Monday, Oct 7th at 4pm at Rabobank Stadium.

We have a Boys Soccer & Girls Volleyball game on Monday& Wednesday at home/GVMS.
Game Times: 7th Grade = 4:30pm & 8th Grade = 5:30pm
Please come support!
Entry Fee = $5 Adults, $1 Children

6th Grade Girls Volleyball has their first game on Thursday, Oct 10th at 6:15pm at the Salinas Rec Center.

Cross Country has a Meet on Saturday, Oct 12th at 4:30pm at Rancho Cielo
