iReady Diagnostic - Reading & Math
We continue the i-Ready diagnostic this week. This is the mid-year point that measures their progress in reading and math since we started the school year in August.

Results from this December diagnostic will determine enrollment in our reading lab and math lab classes. Students can move out of the class or may need to be moved into the class in January.

Please help us prepare students by making sure they are:
  • getting ample sleep
  • eating breakfast (we serve breakfast starting at 7:30am)
  • arriving to school on time
Also, parents, give them encouragement to build their confidence!

In Person or Virtual: GVMS Safety Committee
Join us on Monday, December 9th at 6pm for our Safety Committee meeting.
We are reviewing the details of our School Safety Plan. You can join us in person in the library or virtually.

School Rules Reminder
The week before Thanksgiving, we saw a rise in students:

  • Bringing and spraying fragrances at school. We are a FRAGRANCE FREE school. We have this rule to protect those with allergies and health conditions affected by fragrances.
  • Bringing electronics such as gaming devices and controllers. We do not permit any gaming consoles or devices at school.

Please help us by making sure students are leaving these items at home!

Hawk of the Week
Starnes
Ms. Kelly Starnes
This week, we’re proud to spotlight Ms. Kelly Starnes, our phenomenal 7th grade Social Studies teacher, as Hawk of the Week! Nominated by her peers, Ms. Starnes has quickly become an integral part of our school community, exemplifying consistency, rigor, and excellence in her teaching.

During recent learning walks, her classroom stood out for its focus, high-level discussions, and exemplary behavior. Despite facing challenges last week, including "unwanted visitors" in her classroom and the disruption of having to relocate, Ms. Starnes maintained a calm, steady presence and continued delivering engaging, impactful lessons.

Thank you, Ms. Starnes, for your resilience, dedication, and the positive energy you bring to our school. We are so fortunate to have you on our team!
