We need your support in guiding our students toward healthy conflict resolution strategies. Recently, we've seen an increase in reports of peer conflicts and online cyberbullying among our 6th-grade students.
This week, Mrs. Antuna and Ms. Coronel will be visiting classrooms to talk about appropriate ways to resolve conflicts. We kindly ask that you continue this conversation at home. Please encourage your child to report any incidents to a trusted adult rather than escalating the situation.
Your partnership is essential in helping our students feel safe and supported.
Also, a reminder that a TDAP booster shot is required before entering 7th grade. Call your child’s health clinic today if it’s missing. Your 6th grader will receive a note from the school if they do not have a TDAP booster.

This Friday, April 25th we have our 8th Grade Water Balloon Extravaganza event right after school. It is free. Students need a permission slip. Must wear dark-color clothing to participate

Families: A reminder that we’re working with students to improve attendance at Gavilan View. We need them here every day and arriving to school on time. They also should be arriving to each of their classes on time.
We send home notifications weekly when your child is tardy. Please check the "Alerts" on your Parent Square App. If you’re receiving these notifications, please talk to your child at home so they avoid being assigned a Saturday School.
Our school goal is to stay above 95% attendance every day. This past week, we were just shy of our weekly goal. It was 94.9% and we missed the daily goal on Friday. The breakdown by day was:
-
Monday 4/14: 95.2%
-
Tuesday 4/15: 95.5%
-
Wednesday 4/16: 96.6%
-
Thursday 4/17: 95.52%
-
Friday 4/18: 92.7%
-
Tardies this Week: 81 students had at least one tardy this past week. 14 of them were tardy to first period but 68 were tardy to a class later in the day.
We're a team, families! Let's continue to work together to keep striving for improved attendance and work together to talk to the students about why attendance is important!

This week, we are proud to recognize Susana Corona as our Hawk of the Week! Ms. Corona has been an incredible asset to our school community since stepping into her role as Health Aide. She is efficient, knowledgeable, and deeply committed to student well-being. She has streamlined health office procedures, improved documentation processes, and implemented new guidelines that have enhanced communication between staff, students, and families.
One of her most notable accomplishments this year was ensuring that every student was up to date on their vaccinations before the start of the school year—something that had never happened before. Her work is proactive, precise, and always student-centered.
Her peers nominated Ms. Corona for being a team player who supports the front office whenever needed. She’s stepped in to help as a receptionist, trained new and substitute staff, and provided a consistent and calm presence. Her ability to jump in and support others makes her an indispensable member of our extended front office team.
Ms. Corona also goes above and beyond outside of regular duties—volunteering her time at school events, supporting with translation during conferences and IEPs, and using her bilingual skills to ensure families feel heard and supported. Her calm, welcoming demeanor helps create an environment where both staff and families feel valued and cared for.
We are so lucky to have Ms. Corona on our team. Her leadership, work ethic, and heart make her more than deserving of this Hawk of the Week recognition.
