We want to send a huge thank you to all the families who came out to celebrate our Día de los Muertos event on Friday! It was a beautiful evening, and we so appreciate you sharing it with us and helping to make it a memorable night.

This past week was a blast! Students enjoyed the return of baile folklórico, the skill-building of fencing, and the exciting wrap-up of our fall sports. A massive congratulations to our 7th Grade Girls Volleyball Team for their incredible effort and sportsmanship, resulting in a well-deserved 2nd place finish in the Salinas Valley League Championship Game! Well done, student-athletes!

This week promises even more fun with our Spirit Week events, Game Day, and the long-awaited Popcorn Pick-Up.

Finally, we have one crucial request. This is the last week to complete the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS). This survey provides vital information that helps us improve our school environment and programs. Your anonymous input is extremely important, and we urge all parents to complete it as soon as possible.

We have a tradition at Gavilan View. At the end of every quarter, we celebrate our successes with a fun, Game Day.

This Friday is our 1st Quarter Game Day.

We have so many fun activities planned for the students from a Haunted House to a Video Game trailer to face paining, and many carnival games.

There is no Parent Walking Group on October 31st.

We resume on Friday, November 7th at 2:30 PM.

All popcorn order will be delivered to GVMS this Wed, October 29th.

Students will take them home to give orders to those who purchased popcorn.

PRIZES - Students who sold popcorn will receive their prizes on Wednesday.

LARGE ORDERS? Parents can pick up large orders in the gym from 1:30pm to 5:30pm

We had our fourth Saturday Academy session on Saturday, October 18th. It went went well and students received instruction in English, math, and art.

The Right At School after school program is still accepting registrations.

The Right At School program is offered every day after school until 6:00pm. Students do not have to stay until 6:00pm but there is a minimum of a half hour every day

This week, we are thrilled to recognize three invaluable members of the Gavilan View family as our Hawks of the Week: Maritza Jimenez, Saul Gama, and Zulema Gonzalez! We are incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing team of substitute teachers—though we truly think of them as an extension of our full-time teaching staff. Whenever they are assigned to cover a classroom, they treat it like their own, consistently providing quality instruction and maintaining a caring, stable environment for our students.

The last couple of weeks have been especially challenging as the inevitable cold has circulated through our campus. During this time, our three Super Subs have stepped up in a huge way, taking on longer assignments of three or more consecutive days with one set of classes. When this happens, our administration and staff are completely at ease, knowing the students won't skip a beat. Ms. Jimenez, Mr. Gama, and Ms. Gonzalez ensure that learning continues seamlessly, upholding the high standards of instruction even when the regular teacher is out.

The students have truly come to know and love these dedicated educators. Our entire staff is deeply grateful for their professionalism, reliability, and commitment to the success of every child at Gavilan View. Thank you, Ms. Jimenez, Mr. Gama, and Ms. Gonzalez, for all that you do to keep our school running smoothly!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a perfect time for all of us—students, staff, and families—to reinforce a culture of respect and kindness at home and at school. Bullying prevention isn't just about stopping negative behavior; it's about actively teaching and promoting upstanding behavior and empathy. We encourage you to talk with your child about what bullying looks like (including cyberbullying) and the importance of speaking up, whether they are a target or a witness. Together, we can ensure GV is a safe, supportive, and welcoming place for everyone.

October is officially recognized as Filipino American History Month (FAHM)! This is a vital time to celebrate the rich history, culture, and countless contributions of Filipino Americans to the United States. It was chosen to commemorate the arrival of the first documented Filipinos in America—who landed in what is now Morro Bay, California, in October 1587.

FAHM is important because it allows us to highlight the remarkable impact of the community, from fighting for farm workers' rights to advancing science, arts, and education. We encourage families to explore and learn about this history as part of our commitment to celebrating the diverse tapestry of our school community!
