A Note from the Principals: Our Last Week

Dear Families,

The end of the year is here! This is the final week before winter break, and it is also the last week of the second quarter. We encourage all of our students to stay focused and finish this quarter on a strong note—it’s important that they put their best effort into all assignments and exams this week!

While we are focused on academics, this week is also going to be filled with lots of fun and celebration:

Our students are showing their enthusiasm during Spirit Week! We have exciting lunchtime activities planned throughout the week.
We encourage students to participate in Friday's festive Jingle Bell Run!
We will cap off the week with our highly anticipated Game Day on Friday!

As we look forward to the break, we take a moment to reflect on the first half of the school year. We are incredibly proud of the growth, resilience, and hard work our students have demonstrated. Thank you for your continued support and partnership; it is essential to their success.

We wish all of our students and families a restful, safe, and joyful winter break and a holiday season full of cherished time with loved ones.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the New Year!

This is our Last Week of December

Winter Break starts on December 20th

This week is our final week of December.

It's also the last week of 2nd Quarter.

We have a fun week planned with Spirit Week, Jingle Bell Run, Game Day,

and a School Site Council meeting.

December WOW Week

Spirit Week

We encourage students to dress up every day and show their school spirit.

Plus, there's a 1st period class competition for the most students who dress up.

Game Day Participation Expectations

On Friday, we will wrap up the week and the quarter with our Game Day celebration.

All students will participate unless we’ve had any behavior issues with students.

Students with tardies this past week and this week will lose a portion of their Game Day.

Topic: Continue our discussion about our school goals and make decisions about our

budget for the year. Come join us parents. We need your input!

End of 2nd Quarter

2nd Quarter Grades

It’s important that we stay focused this last week

and that we finish our the 2nd quarter on a strong note.

The last day of 2nd quarter is this Friday December 19th.

Report cards won’t be mailed home until we come back in January.

Homework Center Update

This week we will offer Homework Center during lunch all week.

We will not have Homework Center after school on Wednesday.

Please plan accordingly.

Saturday Academy Registration Now Open

The Academy is 8 Saturdays from January 24th to March 14th.

Saturday Academy gives students the chance to get extra support in

reading and math, participate in engaging enrichment activities, and build

positive connections with peers and staff.

Don’t miss out on this great opportunity. Transportation will be available.

Registration closes this Wednesday, January 14th!

Winter Sports: Basketball Season

Boys Basketball teams have a home game on Monday and an away game on Wednesday. Girls Basketball teams have an away game on Monday and a home game on Wednesday.

for practice schedules as well as game times.

GVMS Basketball Fundraiser

Our Basketball team is fundraising to purchase new uniforms, equipment, and other supplies. Please consider making a donation or sharing this on social media so that they can reach their goal.

We are $725 away from reaching our goal!

Middle School Girls Leadership Opportunity

Dates: April 24–26, 2026
Location: Santa Catalina School in Monterey, California
Participation: This tuition-free program includes on-campus housing, meals, and all activities
Application Timeline: December 1, 2025–January 31, 2026
Selected Scholar Announcement: February 13, 2026; students not selected for the three-day weekend will be invited to a one-day program on-campus March 15 or regional events in fall 2026

Registration for the RAS After School Program

The Right At School after school program is still accepting registrations.

The Right At School program is offered every day after school until 6:00pm. Students do not have to stay until 6:00pm but there is a minimum of a half hour every day

Jorge Quiñonez

This week, we are thrilled to recognize Jorge Quiñonez, our outstanding School Psychologist, as our Hawk of the Week! Jorge was nominated by his peers for the truly invaluable and consistent support he offers to our entire school community. His presence is a crucial asset, and his dedication ensures that our staff feels equipped and our students receive the comprehensive care they need to succeed both academically and emotionally.

One of the greatest strengths Jorge brings to our campus is his unwavering commitment to consultation and collaboration. Staff members know they can always turn to him; he is consistently open to meeting with teachers and administrators to discuss challenging student situations. Jorge always arrives prepared with expert insight and a wealth of practical, actionable resources, making him an essential partner in our efforts to create supportive and successful learning environments for all students.

Finally, Jorge is a pillar of strength within our Special Education team. He serves as an indispensable source of information, expertly navigating complex regulations and procedures. He does a fantastic job of working not only with his colleagues but also with parents, ensuring compassionate communication throughout the entire IEP process. Thank you, Jorge, for your incredible professionalism, expertise, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students and families every single day.

Attendance Matters!

Updates from this past week

Help us to get to 100% attendance!

Our attendance declined significantly this week. This week's average was 93.93%.
Morning tardies stayed the same this week. This week we had 70 students late.
The number of students with period tardies stayed the same this week with 40 students late to at least one class this week.
We are communicating with the families of all students arriving late and establishing attendance contracts.

Talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day

and showing up on time for every class!
