Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Dear Families,
Welcome to the first week of March! Our Hawks are soaring into this new month with incredible energy and focus. As we move closer to the end of the third quarter, we remain dedicated to our students' academic growth and well-being. This week is all about collaboration and hearing from you, our valued partners, as we continue to shape the best possible environment for our students to succeed.
We have a busy and important Thursday ahead and invite you to join us for our parent meetings! We will start with a combined Cafecito and ELAC meeting to discuss ELPAC scores and review our Multiple Measures reports. Following that, we will hold our School Site Council (SSC) Meeting, where we will review our school budget and LCAP goals. Your presence at these meetings is vital, as your feedback ensures our resources are being used to best serve our students' needs.
We also have some exciting ways to support our school programs this week! Our Music Program is hosting a Baked Potato Sale, and on Thursday, we kick off our schoolwide Cookie Dough fundraiser. The first round of games for Spring Sports begin this week. Additionally, Yearbooks remain on sale, and we have begun 8th-grade end-of-the-year ticket sales in the front office. Whether you are helping us plan our school budget or supporting our extracurricular fundraisers or cheering on our Spring teams, your involvement makes Gavilan View a stronger community. Thank you for your continued partnership!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal
Ms. Coronel, Assistant Principal

Students who are classified as English Learners will continue the ELPAC test this month.
This month we are focusing on the Reading and Writing portions of the test.
This test is very important and shows how much English they’ve mastered this year. If they do well on the test, they could potentially reclassify out of the program.
Please encourage your students to do well. And as always, anytime students are taking tests, help us make sure they are getting enough sleep, eating breakfast, and getting to school on time.

We are thrilled to announce Genesis Hernandez and Magali Prieto as our co-Hawks of the Week! Nominated by their peers for their incredible dedication, these two bilingual instructional paraprofessionals have spent the entire month serving as our primary ELPAC proctors. After undergoing hours of specialized training in January, they took on the massive task of administering the 1:1 Listening and Speaking portions of the test to 192 students. Their hard work ensured that our English Learners had a supportive, familiar environment to demonstrate their language mastery.
Beyond their recent testing marathons, Ms. Hernandez and Ms. Prieto are essential fixtures in our classrooms, providing real-time support to our English Learners every single day. Their commitment to student safety and engagement is also evident during lunch, where they both assist with school-wide supervision. They truly go the extra mile to stay connected with our Hawks outside of the traditional classroom setting.
Each of these ladies brings a unique passion to our campus culture: Ms. Prieto serves as the dedicated advisor to our popular lunchtime Soccer Club, while Ms. Hernandez provides vital academic support every Wednesday in our after-school Homework Center. They are both deeply beloved by our students for their kindness and constant encouragement. We are so incredibly lucky to have this powerhouse duo as part of our Gavilan View family!

Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late. We need your help families!
- Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
- Our average was 94.67% for the week, which is a big decrease from last week.
- If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
- We had 67 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 49 students with period tardies.
Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

March marks the beginning of Women's History Month, a dedicated time to honor the vital contributions and often overlooked achievements of women throughout history. At Gavilan View, celebrating this month is essential because it empowers our students to see themselves in the leaders, scientists, and trailblazers who have shaped our world. By highlighting these stories, we foster a culture of respect and inspire all our Hawks—regardless of gender—to break barriers and dream big.
Families, you can keep this conversation going at home by exploring stories of resilience and innovation with your children. Discussing the women in your own family tree or watching a documentary together can make history feel personal and reachable. Middle school is the perfect age to dive into more complex narratives about leadership and social change.
