Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Dear Families,
As we Spring Forward this week, our Hawks are gaining incredible momentum and taking flight into a season of high achievement! We remain deeply committed to our students' academic progress and safety as we approach the end of the third quarter. To ensure our campus remains a secure environment for learning, we will conduct a Shelter in Place drill this Wednesday. We appreciate your partnership in talking with your children about the importance of these safety exercises.
This is a monumental week for our performing arts programs! On Wednesday night, our talented music students will be recognized at the School Board meeting for their hard work and dedication. Following this honor, our Strings and Choir students will head to Rancho San Juan High School on Thursday to rehearse with high school musicians and experience life on a high school campus. The week continues with a showcase of creativity on Friday during lunch, as we host Mrs. Garretson’s Car Model Show to display our students' impressive projects.
We also have several opportunities to support our student programs through our ongoing fundraisers: the Music Program Baked Potato Sale, our schoolwide Cookie Dough fundraiser, and the newly launched Vertical Raise fundraiser for our Spring Sports teams.
We invite all students to celebrate a successful week at our free Movie Night this Friday evening! Whether you are cheering on our musicians or supporting our athletes, your involvement makes Gavilan View a stronger community. Thank you for helping our Hawks soar!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal
Ms. Coronel, Assistant Principal

Students who are classified as English Learners will continue the ELPAC test this month.
This month we are focusing on the Reading and Writing portions of the test.
This test is very important and shows how much English they’ve mastered this year. If they do well on the test, they could potentially reclassify out of the program.
Please encourage your students to do well. And as always, anytime students are taking tests, help us make sure they are getting enough sleep, eating breakfast, and getting to school on time.

|
A TDAP booster shot is required before entering 7th grade. Call your child's health clinic today if it's missing.  You will receive an additional message from the school if your 6th grader does not have a TDAP booster in our records.Â

We are thrilled to recognize Austin Muñiz as our Hawk of the Week! Though this is his first year at Gavilan View, Mr. Muñiz has fit in perfectly, bringing a wealth of teaching experience and an incredible amount of school spirit to our campus. Nominated by his peers for his constant willingness to share resources and ideas, he has become an essential member of our English Department. His collaborative nature has been instrumental in helping the team refine instruction to better serve all our students, proving that he is a true team player who puts student success first.
In the classroom, Mr. Muñiz maintains high expectations that challenge and inspire. When you step into his room, you will find students deeply immersed in reading, writing, and engaging in high-level discussions that sharpen their critical thinking skills. Beyond academics, he has brought a fun and silly energy to GVMS, famously going "all out" for every Spirit Week. He even shared his musical talents during our Winter Concert, volunteering hours of his own time to practice and play the drums with each music class—a contribution that truly made the performance unforgettable.
Mr. Muñiz’s dedication to our students’ futures is further evidenced by his role as the co-advisor for the AVID club. He meets with students weekly, equipping them with the essential skills needed for college and future careers. Under his guidance, the club recently launched a successful fundraiser and is preparing for an exciting field trip to visit CSUMB next week. We are so grateful for the heart, talent, and leadership Mr. Muñiz brings to our school every day. Congratulations!

Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late. We need your help families!
- Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
- Our average was 94.94% for the week, which remained low like last week.
- If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
- We had 69 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 35 students with period tardies.
Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

March marks the beginning of Women's History Month, a dedicated time to honor the vital contributions and often overlooked achievements of women throughout history. At Gavilan View, celebrating this month is essential because it empowers our students to see themselves in the leaders, scientists, and trailblazers who have shaped our world. By highlighting these stories, we foster a culture of respect and inspire all our Hawks—regardless of gender—to break barriers and dream big.
Families, you can keep this conversation going at home by exploring stories of resilience and innovation with your children. Discussing the women in your own family tree or watching a documentary together can make history feel personal and reachable. Middle school is the perfect age to dive into more complex narratives about leadership and social change.
