Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Dear Families,
We have reached the final week of the 3rd Quarter, and our Hawks are finishing strong as we prepare for Spring Break! This week is all about celebrating our students' hard work and showing our school spirit. We are hosting a Spirit Week all week long, including a friendly 1st-period class competition. We will cap off the week on Friday with our traditional Game Day, full of fun afternoon activities to celebrate a successful term.
As we wrap up the quarter, our teachers are busy finalizing grades this Wednesday. Please look out for report cards, which will be mailed home this Friday. This week is also packed with enrichment opportunities; we have a group of students participating in the Safe Schools Ambassadors training to promote a positive campus climate, and another group will be heading out to visit CSUMB this Tuesday to explore future college pathways.
Finally, we are closing out two of our major school fundraisers. Our schoolwide Cookie Dough fundraiser ends this Wednesday, and our Music Program’s Baked Potato Sale takes place this Thursday. Thank you for your incredible support of these programs!
We hope everyone has a wonderful final week of the quarter before a well-deserved Spring Break. Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping our Hawks soar!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal
Ms. Coronel, Assistant Principal

Students who are classified as English Learners will finish with the ELPAC test this week.
We are wrapping up the Reading and Writing portions of the test.
This test is very important and shows how much English they’ve mastered this year. If they do well on the test, they could potentially reclassify out of the program.
Please encourage your students to do well. And as always, anytime students are taking tests, help us make sure they are getting enough sleep, eating breakfast, and getting to school on time.

We are incredibly proud to announce Diane Gehling as our Hawk of the Week! Ms. Gehling was nominated by her peers for her extraordinary leadership and the recent success of our students at the CMEA-CCS Solo & Ensemble Festival. This marked the first time in over 25 years that Gavilan View Middle School participated in this prestigious event, with 12 of our students and one student from JG competing. Our Hawks truly shone, bringing home seven "Excellent" and two "Superior" performance ratings. In recognition of this achievement, Ms. Gehling and her students were honored at the Santa Rita Union School District Board Meeting this past Wednesday.
Ms. Gehling’s dedication to providing her students with high-level musical experiences is unmatched. This past Thursday, she coordinated a visit to Rancho San Juan High School, where our music students had the opportunity to rehearse with the high school program and get a true taste of campus life. Her tireless work continues year-round, from preparing students for our on-campus Winter Concert to coaching them through auditions for the CMEA-CCS Honors Choir, Band, and Orchestra—a process that resulted in eight of our students being selected. She is already hard at work preparing our musicians for their final Spring Concert this May.
Building and sustaining a thriving music program is a community effort, and Ms. Gehling is a master at getting everyone involved. She meets monthly with music program families and collaborates closely with other music teachers across the district to ensure a strong vertical alignment. From the current "Baked Potato Fundraiser" ending this Thursday to her famous "Mattress Fundraisers," she works around the clock to ensure our program has the resources it needs. Soon, she will be visiting and performing for our current 5th-grade students to recruit the next generation of musicians. We cannot put a value on all of her contributions to Gavilan View; her commitment is truly one of a kind!

Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late. We need your help families!
- Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
- Our average was 94.28% for the week, which remained low like last week.
- If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
- We had 100 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 35 students with period tardies.
Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

March marks the beginning of Women's History Month, a dedicated time to honor the vital contributions and often overlooked achievements of women throughout history. At Gavilan View, celebrating this month is essential because it empowers our students to see themselves in the leaders, scientists, and trailblazers who have shaped our world. By highlighting these stories, we foster a culture of respect and inspire all our Hawks—regardless of gender—to break barriers and dream big.
Families, you can keep this conversation going at home by exploring stories of resilience and innovation with your children. Discussing the women in your own family tree or watching a documentary together can make history feel personal and reachable. Middle school is the perfect age to dive into more complex narratives about leadership and social change.
