Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Dear Families,
We are officially in the home stretch of the school year. This week, our classrooms are buzzing as students and teachers work together to wrap up their current units in preparation for upcoming state testing. To ensure our students can focus in a safe environment, we will also be conducting a Secure Campus Drill this Wednesday morning. We appreciate your partnership in discussing the importance of these safety practices with your children at home.
For our 8th-grade families, please note that we have had to postpone our 8th-grade panoramic picture; we will share the new date as soon as it is confirmed. Additionally, we are hosting a specific parent meeting this week for any 8th-grade students currently at or below a 2.0 GPA. This is a vital opportunity to discuss the steps needed to ensure every student finishes their middle school journey successfully.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping us show that our Hawks are truly capable of anything!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal
Ms. Coronel, Assistant Principal

Additionally, this year she graciously stepped up to teach ELD 2 to our Multilingual Learners. She has done an outstanding job mastering and delivering this new curriculum, showing a deep commitment to the success of every student in her care.
Ms. Stewart is incredibly intentional and strategic in her lesson planning, ensuring that every Hawk has the tools they need to succeed. She is a master of differentiated instruction, building in the necessary scaffolds to support all learners while keeping the content engaging and rigorous. A passionate advocate for literacy, she constantly pushes her students to grow as readers and takes great joy in rewarding their academic milestones. Her innovative spirit and constant reflection on new teaching strategies make her an invaluable asset to our 6th-grade team.
Beyond her instructional excellence, Ms. Stewart provides a vital "safe haven" for our students. Her classroom is often filled with Hawks during break and lunch, seeking the welcoming and calm environment she works so hard to maintain. Whether she is sharing her love of animals with her classes or showing off her playful side during our Game Day activities, her connection with our students is truly special. Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late.Â
- Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
- Our average was 94.48% for the week, which remained low like last week.
- If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
- We had 92 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 46 students with period tardies.
Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

In April, we honor Arab American Heritage Month, celebrating the history and achievements of over 3.5 million Arab Americans. In middle school, recognizing this month is vital for building cultural literacy and ensuring every student feels seen and valued. By highlighting these diverse stories, we challenge stereotypes and help our students grow into empathetic, global citizens.
At home, you can celebrate by exploring the "hidden" Arab influences in our daily lives—from the origins of words like "coffee" and "algebra" to the rich flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine. Encouraging your child to read a book by an Arab American author or research a famous innovator is a great way to spark curiosity and appreciation for the diverse cultures that shape our world.

In April, we join the nationwide move from "awareness" to Autism Acceptance, celebrating the unique strengths and perspectives of our neurodivergent students. Middle school is a critical time for building identity and empathy; by recognizing this month, we teach our children that neurodiversity—the different ways our brains work—is a valuable part of a strong community. Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, respected, and included for exactly who they are.
At home, you can support this by starting simple conversations about how everyone learns and processes information differently. Encourage your child to see accommodations, like noise-canceling headphones or quiet spaces, as tools for success rather than "differences." Whether it’s watching a movie with a neurodivergent lead or discussing how to be a supportive friend, these small actions help build a culture of belonging that extends from your living room to our classrooms.
