Hawk of the Week

Stellar Staff Member

Gravem

Trish Gravem

We are thrilled to honor Trish Gravem as our Hawk of the Week! Mrs. Gravem was nominated by her peers for her exceptional leadership during the recent Science Garden Rainforest Exhibit. Under her guidance, students worked in collaborative groups to research rainforests from across the globe, focusing specifically on human impact and the global environment. Mrs. Gravem opened this incredible exhibit to the entire school, inviting all classes to visit and engage with the material. Our visiting students were blown away by how poised and professional the presenters were, as they answered complex questions with confidence and expertise.

In addition to her work in the Science Garden, Mrs. Gravem is a standout member of our 6th-grade team, teaching Social Studies, Science, and two sections of Math. She is a truly dynamic educator who has a gift for making learning both fun and deeply engaging. The energy she builds in her classroom is "electric," creating an atmosphere where students are excited to participate and succeed. It’s no surprise that her core group of students are frequent champions of our school-wide Spirit Weeks—her enthusiasm is simply contagious!

Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Gravem’s commitment to our students’ interests knows no bounds. She serves as the advisor for the “Everything is Awesome” Club, providing a space for students to bond over Marvel, Legos, Harry Potter, and more. She also recently shared her athletic talents as the co-coach for our Fencing team. Whether she is coaching, leading a club meeting, or inspiring environmental stewards in the garden, Mrs. Gravem’s impact on Gavilan View is immeasurable. Thank you for everything you do, Mrs. Gravem!

Attendance Matters!

attendance

Help us to get to 100% attendance!

We need your help families!

Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late.

  • Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
  • Our average was 93.83% for the week, which dropped from last week.
  • If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
  • We had 91 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 58 students with period tardies.

Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

April is...

Arab American Heritage Month & Autism Awareness Month

Arab American

Arab American Heritage Month

In April, we honor Arab American Heritage Month, celebrating the history and achievements of over 3.5 million Arab Americans. In middle school, recognizing this month is vital for building cultural literacy and ensuring every student feels seen and valued. By highlighting these diverse stories, we challenge stereotypes and help our students grow into empathetic, global citizens.

At home, you can celebrate by exploring the "hidden" Arab influences in our daily lives—from the origins of words like "coffee" and "algebra" to the rich flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine. Encouraging your child to read a book by an Arab American author or research a famous innovator is a great way to spark curiosity and appreciation for the diverse cultures that shape our world.

Autism Awareness

Autism Awareness Month

In April, we join the nationwide move from "awareness" to Autism Acceptance, celebrating the unique strengths and perspectives of our neurodivergent students. Middle school is a critical time for building identity and empathy; by recognizing this month, we teach our children that neurodiversity—the different ways our brains work—is a valuable part of a strong community. Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, respected, and included for exactly who they are.

At home, you can support this by starting simple conversations about how everyone learns and processes information differently. Encourage your child to see accommodations, like noise-canceling headphones or quiet spaces, as tools for success rather than "differences." Whether it’s watching a movie with a neurodivergent lead or discussing how to be a supportive friend, these small actions help build a culture of belonging that extends from your living room to our classrooms.
