Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Dear Families,
We are officially halfway through the fourth quarter, and the finish line is in sight! This week, our Hawks are continuing to show their focus and determination as we move through state testing in both Math and English. To help you track your student's progress during this busy time, teachers are preparing progress reports this week, which will be mailed home this Friday. We encourage you to review these with your child to ensure a strong finish to the school year.
We want to give a massive shout-out to our Spring Sports athletes as their season comes to a close. We are especially proud of our 7th and 8th-grade Girls Soccer team, who secured a fantastic 2nd-place finish in the championship game this past Friday! Your teamwork and sportsmanship truly represented the best of Gavilan View.
For our 8th graders, the celebrations are heating up! We are hosting our annual Water Balloon Extravaganza this Friday after school—it’s a favorite tradition and a great way to de-stress after a week of testing. Also, for any 8th-grade families interested in helping us plan the upcoming 8th-grade dance, we will be hosting a volunteer planning meeting this Wednesday after school in the front office. We would love to have your input and help!
Let's have a great week, Hawks!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal
Ms. Coronel, Assistant Principal

Attendance is important! We’ve been working really hard to minimize tardies both in the morning and students showing up to their classes late.Â
- Please talk to your children about the importance of going to school every day and showing up on time for every class!
- Our average was 95.81% for the week, which improved from last week.
- If your child is absent, please make sure to call us and tell us the reason.
- We had 104 students late in the morning at least one day this past week, 39 students with period tardies.
Students with repetitive tardies will be assigned an Attendance Accountability Project

In April, we honor Arab American Heritage Month, celebrating the history and achievements of over 3.5 million Arab Americans. In middle school, recognizing this month is vital for building cultural literacy and ensuring every student feels seen and valued. By highlighting these diverse stories, we challenge stereotypes and help our students grow into empathetic, global citizens.
At home, you can celebrate by exploring the "hidden" Arab influences in our daily lives—from the origins of words like "coffee" and "algebra" to the rich flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine. Encouraging your child to read a book by an Arab American author or research a famous innovator is a great way to spark curiosity and appreciation for the diverse cultures that shape our world.

|
In April, we join the nationwide move from "awareness" to Autism Acceptance, celebrating the unique strengths and perspectives of our neurodivergent students. Middle school is a critical time for building identity and empathy; by recognizing this month, we teach our children that neurodiversity—the different ways our brains work—is a valuable part of a strong community. Our goal is to ensure every student feels seen, respected, and included for exactly who they are.
At home, you can support this by starting simple conversations about how everyone learns and processes information differently. Encourage your child to see accommodations, like noise-canceling headphones or quiet spaces, as tools for success rather than "differences." Whether it’s watching a movie with a neurodivergent lead or discussing how to be a supportive friend, these small actions help build a culture of belonging that extends from your living room to our classrooms.
