Why does this matter? These results help us tailor instruction to your child’s exact needs—and for our English Learners, strong scores are a key step toward ELD reclassification! We want every student to give it their absolute best effort.

Help Your Student Shine:
  • 😴 Rest: Aim for a full night of sleep
  • 🍳 Fuel: Eat a healthy breakfast
  • Punctuality: Arrive at school on time
  • 💻 Prep: Bring a fully charged Chromebook

Let’s team up for a great testing week!

School Reminders

no phones

Off & Away in Backpacks! 📱🎒

To keep our students focused and fully present, Gavilan View maintains a strict no-device policy during school hours. Thank you for helping us protect our learning environment!

Key Expectations to Remember:
  • 🎒 In Backpacks, Not Pockets: All cell phones and electronic devices must be powered completely off and stored inside backpacks—never kept in pockets.
  • 🚫 All Devices Included: This applies to Smartwatches, AirPods, Meta Glasses, or any other Bluetooth-enabled gadgets.
  • 🎧 Headphones Needed: If a lesson requires audio, students must use wired headphones that plug directly into their Chromebooks.

We appreciate your partnership in building an environment where every student can focus, connect, and thrive!

Taking Care of Our New Chromebooks! 💻

With our new Chromebooks, we need your help keeping them in top shape! Please review these quick care habits with your student to ensure their Chromebook stays ready for learning every single day:
  • 🔌 Charge Nightly: Plug the Chromebook in every evening so it starts the school day at 100%.
  • 🏷️ Label Your Charger: Please write your student’s name on their charger using a strip of tape so we can easily return it if it ever gets misplaced!
  • 🏠 Safe Storage: When not in use, keep the device closed and stored in a flat, safe spot away from edges, feet, or pets.
  • 🥤 Keep it Clean: All food, drinks, and snacks should stay far away from the keyboard to prevent accidental spills!
  • 🖐️ Handle with Care: Always carry the closed laptop using two hands—never hold or lift it by the screen.
Explore Your Device! Check out the graphic below to discover all the awesome new features packed into our Chromebooks!

dress code

Dress Code Refresher: Dress for Success! 👔

As we settle into the school year, we want to remind families of our campus dress code guidelines. Our goal is to maintain a safe, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment where every student can focus on their education.
Key Reminders:
  • 👕 Coverage: Tops must cover the midriff completely—no low-cut shirts, crop tops, or exposed undergarments. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must be an appropriate length.
  • 👖 Pants: Pants must be worn at the waist (no sagging).
  • 🧥 Hoods Off Outdoors: Sweater and Jaket hoods must remain off when outdoors starting at nutrition break and throughout the rest of the school day.
  • 🎨 Campus Colors: No solid red or solid blue clothing items, sweaters, jackets, or accessories are permitted on campus.

Thank you for reviewing these expectations with your student to ensure they arrive ready to shine every day!

Hawk of the Week

Stellar Staff Member

Cuevas

Alex Cuevas

We are thrilled to name our Library Media Technician, Alex Cuevas, as our Hawk of the Week! Nominated by her peers for her tireless work behind the scenes, Alex is a vital backbone of Gavilan View. This summer, she went above and beyond to prepare our campus for a successful year—preparing all textbooks and curriculum for staff, prepping hundreds of new Chromebooks, and tackling the new responsibilities of the Verizon Innovative Learning program. She repeatedly stayed late and worked extra hours to ensure both students and teachers had everything they needed on day one. As her colleagues put it, "Alex is wonderful, amazing, fantastic, and all other things GREAT!"

Beyond her tech and textbook wizardry, Alex is on a mission to transform our library into a vibrant hub of literacy and discovery. She spent her summer revamping our space to introduce a brand-new non-fiction section and actively pursues grants, DonorsChoose projects, and outside funding to bring fresh, relevant books to our shelves. Her passion for reading extends beyond our building walls—she is currently bringing her vision of a Community Little Library to life outside our school so students and families can share books year-round. Next week, she is excited to welcome our Science classes into the library to showcase these incredible new resources!

Day to day, Alex serves our Hawks with patience, warmth, and unmatched kindness. Whether she is gently troubleshooting a technology hiccup, resetting a password, or collaborating with our counseling team for monthly Craft Lab activities—like this past Friday's fun "Chalk & Bubbles" event—she ensures the library is a welcoming haven for all. Thank you, Alex, for your vision, your hard work, and the boundless love you bring to our school community!
