Safety is our top priority at Gavilan View! On Tuesday, August 25th, our students will participate in our first official safety drill of the school year: a Bus Evacuation Drill.
During this practice, students will learn key bus safety rules and step-by-step emergency evacuation procedures. Practicing these skills ensures our Hawks know exactly how to stay safe—whether they ride the bus to school every day or take district transportation for sports and class field trips throughout the year.
Thank you for supporting our commitment to keeping our campus and students prepared!

|
This Thursday, August 27th, Gavilan View Middle School will host our scheduled annual Williams Act Compliance Visit conducted by representatives from the County Office of Education.
During this visit, inspectors will walk our campus to review our school facilities and ensure that all students have sufficient, up-to-date instructional materials and textbooks. We welcome this routine review as part of our ongoing commitment to providing a safe, well-equipped, and supportive learning environment for all of our Hawks.

Most students will finish taking the i-Ready Inform assessment this week. This assessment helps us pinpoint their Reading and Math strengths. Teachers will share the exact schedule with their classes.
Why does this matter? These results help us tailor instruction to your child’s exact needs—and for our English Learners, strong scores are a key step toward ELD reclassification! We want every student to give it their absolute best effort.
Help Your Student Shine:
- 😴 Rest: Aim for a full night of sleep
- 🍳 Fuel: Eat a healthy breakfast
- ⏰ Punctuality: Arrive at school on time
- 💻 Prep: Bring a fully charged Chromebook
- 💪 Mindset: Encourage them to do their best with confidence!

A huge thank you to all of our Hawks who dressed up, participated in our daily lunchtime activities, and brought so much energy and Hawk Pride to campus during WOW Week.
We tallied up the participation numbers to see which classes had the highest percentage of students dressed up each day. Congratulations to our 2026 WOW Week Class Competition Winners:
- 🥇 6th Grade: Mrs. Gravem’s Class
- 🥇 7th Grade: Ms. Starnes’ Class
- 🥇 8th Grade: Mr. Holzwart’s Class
Way to show off your school spirit! We will be scheduling a special class reward for these winning classes later this week. Keep bringing that Hawk Spirit all year long!

A massive thank you to all of our families who have already completed and returned the Housing & Income Questionnaire! These forms are crucial because they directly secure essential state funding, resources, and programs for our campus and students.
We held a quick competition to see which 1st-period class could hit 100% turn-in status first, and we ended in an exciting tie! Congratulations to our co-winners:
- 🥇 Mr. Holzwart’s 1st Period Class
- 🥇 Ms. Garretson’s 1st Period Class
Both classes will receive a special class reward this week for leading the pack!
Haven't turned yours in yet? Our goal is 100% participation across the entire school! If you still have this form at home, please fill it out and have your student bring it to the front office or their 1st-period teacher as soon as possible.
Thank you for helping us fund our Hawks!

As we settle into using our new Chromebooks, we want to make sure every Hawk has reliable internet access at home! While our new devices come with built-in Wi-Fi capability, it will take a few more weeks for Verizon to fully activate each student's individual network account.
Temporary Hotspots Available: If your family currently needs internet connection at home to help your student complete assignments, we have free temporary mobile hotspots ready to be checked out!
-
How to Request: Please call our main office or have your student stop by the library to request a hotspot.
-
Next Steps: Once Verizon finishes the account setups over the coming weeks, we will transition students over to the built-in Wi-Fi seamlessly.
Thank you for your patience as we complete this tech rollout!

We are excited to announce Sam Seeno as our Hawk of the Week! Nominated by his peers for his outstanding leadership as our ASB Director, Mr. Seeno kicked off the school year with an incredible "WOW Week" that set an energetic, positive tone for our entire campus. From organizing dynamic activities to guiding our 6th-grade officer campaigns and elections, his dedication to building school spirit has been phenomenal. As a colleague shared, "Seeno and ASB have really set the tone for our school spirit!"
Behind the scenes, Mr. Seeno works tirelessly to create memorable experiences for our Hawks. He is currently busy coordinating our upcoming Beach Trip and managing major school fundraisers, all while teaching a dedicated Leadership class where he mentors and molds our Hawk student leaders. You can find him at every school event promoting ASB and selling Hawk gear. He sacrifices a lot of his time to managing complex ASB accounting, deposits, and financial approvals. His meticulous work behind the curtain ensures our school traditions run seamlessly.
Beyond his leadership role with ASB, Mr. Seeno is a dedicated 7th and 8th-grade Math teacher who works every day to make math engaging, approachable, and accessible to all students. Whether he is breaking down complex equations in the classroom or inspiring student leaders on campus, his impact is felt across Gavilan View. Thank you, Mr. Seeno, for your energy, dedication, and unwavering commitment to making our school a fantastic place to learn and grow!
