We have officially hit the halfway point of our 1st Quarter! Progress reports are being mailed home and reflect your student's grades as of Thursday, September 10th.
Because grades are updated continuously, the most accurate and real-time information is always available on your Aeries Parent Portal.
How Families Can Support Success Over the Next 4 Weeks:
📱 Check Aeries Regularly: Monitor your child's grades and assignments weekly through the portal.
📚 Utilize the Homework Center: If your child has a D or F in any class, encourage them to drop in for tutoring and dedicated study time.
💬 Stay Connected: Reach out directly to your student's teachers via ParentSquare with any questions or support needs.
Our 1st Quarter ends the first week of October—that leaves just 4 weeks for students to turn in missing work, study hard, and raise their grades! Let's finish the quarter strong!

Attention families of 8th-grade students: We are holding an essential informational meeting this Thursday, September 17th, at 5:00 PM in the GVMS Library.
This meeting is specifically for 8th-grade students currently holding a cumulative GPA below 2.0 who are at risk of not meeting our Gavilan View promotion expectations at the end of the school year.
What We Will Cover:
- 📋 Promotion Expectations: Clear guidelines on what our 8th graders need to achieve to participate in end-of-year activities and the promotion ceremony.
- 📈 Academic Support Options: Action plans, Homework Center resources, and tutoring pathways to help boost GPAs quickly over the next four weeks.
Partnering early in the year gives our Hawks the time and support they need to turn their grades around. We strongly encourage invited families to attend—we look forward to seeing you Thursday evening!
|
This Tuesday, September 15th, our campus will hold our first monthly safety drill. We will be practicing a standard fire drill and evacuation procedure.
These routine practices help ensure that our students and staff know exactly what to do in the event of an emergency. Thank you for helping us keep Gavilan View safe and prepared!

As we enter the mid-point of the quarter, we are conducting a firm reset on our campus dress code expectations. Recently, we have noticed an increase in saggy pants, exposed midriffs, low-cut tops, and visible undergarments. We need your help at home to ensure your Hawk leaves the house dressed for school success!
The PE Rule of Thumb: Remember, students participate in physical education and active school day tasks in the clothes they wear to school. A great test before leaving home: if your student bends over, reaches up, or runs, all midriffs, undergarments, and private areas must stay fully covered!
Progressive Consequences for Dress Code Violations:
- 1️⃣ First Offense: Verbal warning and student may need to change into appropriate attire, especially for PE clothes.
-
Phone Call Home: We will make a phone call to parent/guardians to notify you.
-
Continued Violations: Lunch detention and mandatory parent check-in.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our campus focused on learning, safe, and respectful for everyone!

Double the spirit, double the fun! Our September Spirit Fridays continue this Friday, September 18th, and it’s time for one of our favorite traditions.
What You Need to Know:
- 👥 This Friday’s Theme: It’s Twin Day! Encourage your Hawk to find a friend, staff, or group and match their outfits for the day.
- 👗 Dress Code Reminders: School dress code still applies—keep those outfits campus-appropriate!
- 🏆 Class Competition: 1st period teachers will be counting participating students. Points are tallied every Friday, and the winning classes will win end-of-the-month prizes!
Help your Hawk coordinate with their twin this week so their 1st period class can rise on the leaderboard!

These outstanding Hawks were selected by our staff because their exceptional kindness and compassion perfectly exemplify the "Caring" pillar of the Six Pillars of Character.

Big congratulations to Cruz, our lucky Hawk, who scored tickets to see a Monterey Bay Football Club match live!
His active participation in our GVMS Soccer Club and his deeply compelling passion for the sport earned him this well-deserved reward.
We love seeing our students pursue their passions—enjoy the game!

We are delighted to celebrate Laura McKenzie as our Hawk of the Week! Nominated by her peers for her deep commitment to students and staff alike, Ms. McKenzie took on a major new challenge this year by making a change from teaching 6th-grade Core to 7th-grade Math.
Her transition has been an absolute triumph. Just one month into the school year, her students are already raving about how much they are learning and how fun she makes math class. As one colleague noted, students frequently share, "I’m so happy I have Ms. McKenzie... she makes learning Math easy and fun!"
Beyond the remarkable connections she builds in her classroom, Ms. McKenzie is the ultimate team player who is always stepping up for the Gavilan View community. Whether she is chaperoning our recent student beach trip or putting on fun activities for Game Day, she jumps in wherever she is needed with enthusiasm and care. Her dedication ensures our Hawks have rich, memorable experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
Ms. McKenzie’s warmth and generosity shine just as brightly among her colleagues. She consistently goes out of her way to support fellow teachers—checking in to see how they are doing, running copies, offering help, or dropping off a well-timed cup of coffee to brighten someone's day. As one fellow teacher put it best: "I’m so thankful we have her on our side. She has taken every day to make sure the rest of us are doing ok."
Thank you, Ms. McKenzie, for your incredible heart, flexibility, and dedication to our GV family!
