With less than three weeks remaining, now is the crucial time for our Hawks to turn in missing work, study for upcoming assessments, and finish the quarter strong. We need your partnership at home to help our students prioritize their academics!
How Families Can Support Success Over the Next 3 Weeks:
- 📱 Check Aeries Regularly: Monitor your child's grades and assignments weekly through the portal to track current progress.
- 📚 Utilize the Homework Center: If your child has a D or F in any class, encourage them to drop in for tutoring, Wi-Fi access, and dedicated study time!
-
Lunchtime: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday
-
After School: Wednesdays from 1:15 PM – 3:15 PM
💬 Stay Connected: Reach out directly to your student's teachers via ParentSquare with any questions or support needs.
Let's work together to make sure every Hawk achieves their academic best before the quarter closes!

Our 8th graders are heading to Cardinale Stadium at CSUMB this Tuesday, September 22nd (9:30 AM – 2:00 PM)!
- ⚽ What to Expect: Stadium tour, player meet-and-greet, and behind-the-scenes career exploration covering sports marketing, HR, business, and communications.
- 📋 Requirements: Open to all 8th graders with a signed permission slip.
- 🚌 Logistics: Transportation and lunch are fully provided!

|
We need your immediate support at home regarding student safety and campus health. This past week, we had incidents involving students bringing alcohol (specifically "BeatBox" beverages) and marijuana onto campus.
Please take a moment to discuss the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and peer pressure with your student, and remind them never to accept unknown drinks or substances from peers.
-
Strict Policy: Possessing or bringing any illegal substance or alcohol onto school grounds is a severe safety violation that results in immediate, serious disciplinary consequences and direct law enforcement involvement.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep Gavilan View safe, healthy, and drug-free for all students.
|
Show off your Hawk pride this Friday, September 25th, for our final Spirit Friday of the month!
Students are invited to leave their traditional backpacks at home and carry their books and supplies in a creative container—like a laundry basket, bucket, or suitcase!
⚠️ Guidelines: Whatever container chosen must safely hold all necessary learning supplies for the day, fit safely under or next to desks, and comply with safety rules (no hazardous items or living animals!). Standard dress code rules also apply.
This is the last chance for students to earn points to help their 1st period class win September's spirit competition! Let's show that Hawk spirit!

We have two targeted parent meetings scheduled on campus this week:
- 🏛️ DELAC Virtual Meeting: Tuesday evening at 5:30 PM
- 🎓 8th Grade Academic Standing Make-Up Session: Thursday at 5:30 PM (for families who missed last week's meeting)
Because these meetings are for specific student groups, invited families will receive a direct phone call and invitation via ParentSquare with full details. Thank you for partnering with us!

School Reminders & Gratitudes
|
As we push toward the end of the quarter, we appreciate family support in reinforcing three key campus guidelines:
- 👗 Dress Code: Ensure midriffs, undergarments, and saggy pants remain fully covered throughout the day.
- 📱 Electronics & Devices: Cell phones and personal electronics must be turned off and put away out of sight during class time.
- 🍬 Gum Policy: Chewing gum must be properly disposed of in trash cans—never under desks or on walkways!
Thank you for partnering with us at home to keep Gavilan View focused, clean, and respectful!

We are proud to honor our long-term substitute art teacher, Eduardo Soto-Rodriguez, as our Hawk of the Week! Nominated by his peers for his phenomenal work leading our art program, Mr. Soto-Rodriguez stepped into our Advanced Art and Intro to Art classes with passion and dedication. Most recently, he spearheaded the vibrant Alebrije Art Exhibit project, guiding our students step by step as they brought these intricate, fantastical creatures to life. As his nominator shared, "Mr. Soto-Rodriguez is doing a phenomenal job with our art program... he is working hard to learn the art concepts he's bringing to the classroom in an exciting way every day."
Beyond his incredible classroom projects, Mr. Soto-Rodriguez has shown an unwavering commitment to the Gavilan View community. We are deeply grateful that he graciously agreed to stay on as our long-term substitute while we complete the hiring process for a permanent teacher. Every day, he arrives on campus early and stays late to ensure his thoughtful, engaging lesson plans are completely prepped and that his students have all the support they need to unleash their creativity.
Mr. Soto-Rodriguez has seamlessly integrated into our school culture, building strong, positive rapport with our Hawks and ensuring they feel supported every step of the way. He is currently hard at work preparing for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences, eager to partner with families to celebrate student progress and artistic growth. Thank you, Mr. Soto-Rodriguez, for stepping up, pouring your heart into our art program, and being such a dedicated member of our GV family!
