Dear Gavilan View Community,
|
Happy Sunday, Gavilan View Families!
We're kicking off our first full week of the 2nd Quarter with fresh gradebooks, new goals, and high expectations for all of our Hawks. Please note the key updates for this short week below:
- 🗓️ No School Monday (Oct. 12): There is no school tomorrow, Monday, October 12th, due to a staff Professional Development day. Classes resume on Tuesday morning!
- 🚨 The Great California ShakeOut (Thursday, Oct. 15): On Thursday, our campus will participate in the annual Great California ShakeOut. Students and staff will practice our "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" earthquake safety procedures to keep our campus prepared and safe.
- 📚 Quarter 2 Fresh Start: Encourage your Hawk to establish great study habits early! Check Aeries regularly, stay connected on ParentSquare, and remind students to take advantage of our Homework Center and after-school programs.
Thank you for your energy, partnership, and dedication to our Hawk family. Let's make it a safe, inspiring, and successful week!
Warmly,
Mrs. Antuna, Principal

We are thrilled to name Jorge Fernandez-Mora as our Hawk of the Week! Nominated by his peers for his impressive initiative, Mr. Fernandez-Mora has brought four incredible new programs and resources to our school this year alone. Thanks to his dedicated outreach, Gavilan View was selected for the second year in a row for the 8th Grade Stanford Splash Program this November—with all expenses fully paid! Demonstrating his commitment to our broader educational community, he even advocated to expand this opportunity to our neighbors at John Gutierrez Middle School. Additionally, he recently secured participation for his Core and Science Garden classes in the prestigious O’Neill Sea Odyssey Program. Building on the success of last year's chocolate fundraiser, he's launching it again this year to raise funds and more opportunities.
Although in his second year of teaching, Mr. Fernandez-Mora exhibits a bright vision and strong drive. He graciously stepped up this year to teach Science Garden, collaborating closely with Mrs. Gravem to bring fresh ideas and new vitality to our outdoor learning space. He is also tireless when it comes to creating once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for students; he is currently partnering with WorldStrides to help fundraise over the next two years so current 7th graders can travel to Washington, D.C. in the spring of 2028!
Mr. Fernandez-Mora’s passion for student growth extends far beyond his daily lesson plans. As the co-advisor for our AVID Club, he actively promotes college and career readiness across campus. Furthermore, he recently joined our school’s Instructional Rounds Network, working alongside colleagues to refine classroom instruction, support vertical alignment with our feeder elementary schools, and elevate the learning experience for all Hawks. Thank you, Mr. Fernandez-Mora, for your relentless dedication, your big vision, and your unwavering commitment to our students!
