These are the safety measures we take if there were ever to be a safety concern near our school but not on our campus (for example, if there was police activity nearby).
We’re practicing first thing in the morning during 1st period so it’s very important that students arrive on time on Wednesday.

We need your support in guiding our students toward healthy conflict resolution strategies. Recently, we've seen an increase in reports of peer conflicts and online cyberbullying among our 6th-grade students.
This week, Mrs. Antuna and Ms. Coronel will be visiting classrooms to talk about appropriate ways to resolve conflicts. We kindly ask that you continue this conversation at home. Please encourage your child to report any incidents to a trusted adult rather than escalating the situation.
Your partnership is essential in helping our students feel safe and supported.
Also, a reminder that a TDAP booster shot is required before entering 7th grade. Call your child’s health clinic today if it’s missing. Your 6th grader will receive a note from the school if they do not have a TDAP booster.

Families: A reminder that we’re working with students to improve attendance at Gavilan View. We need them here every day and arriving to school on time. They also should be arriving to each of their classes on time.
We send home notifications weekly when your child is tardy. Please check the "Alerts" on your Parent Square App. If you’re receiving these notifications, please talk to your child at home so they avoid being assigned a Saturday School.
Our school goal is to stay above 95% attendance every day. The week returning from Spring Break, we didn't meet our goal. Our attendance was at 94.6%. The breakdown by day was:
-
Monday 3/31: 93.7%
-
Tuesday 4/2: 95.2%
-
Wednesday 4/3: 96.9%
-
Thursday 4/4: 94.6%
-
Friday 4/5: 93.7%
-
Tardies this Week: 103 students had at least one tardy this past week. 19 of them were tardy to first period but 84 were tardy to a class later in the day.
We're a team, families! Let's continue to work together to keep striving for improved attendance and work together to talk to the students about why attendance is important!

This week, we are honored to recognize Ms. Diane Gehling, our incredible Music Program Director, as our Hawk of the Week!
Ms. Gehling is a one-woman music department, teaching Intro to Band, Intro to Orchestra, Advanced Band, Advanced Orchestra, and Choir—all with passion, skill, and heart. On top of her full teaching load at Gavilan View, she has gone above and beyond this year by supporting another middle school that has been without a music teacher. Her dedication to music education reaches far beyond the classroom.
She works tirelessly to fundraise so her students can participate in local festivals and performance opportunities, including our upcoming Spring Concert on May 7th at the historic Fox Theater in downtown Salinas. She also supports students in applying for regional Honors programs and then commits her time to helping them prepare for their performances.
In March, Ms. Gehling brought a special energy to our campus in celebration of Music in Our Schools Month. She engaged staff with fun music trivia, curated daily music selections for morning announcements to help us explore new genres, and recognized staff for participating in the month's activities. Her efforts brought joy, community, and a deeper appreciation for music to our entire school.
Thank you, Ms. Gehling, for sharing your passion and making music an unforgettable part of our students' lives!
